Genealogy is the study of families and the tracing of
their lineages and history. Genealogists use oral traditions, historical
records, genetic analysis, and other records to obtain information about a
family and to demonstrate kinship and pedigrees of its members.

I have dabbled in my genealogy over the past three
decades from time to time. Talking with
your family members, grandparents, aunts and uncles are a good place to start
and to gather interesting information. Second, third and beyond cousins also
provide essential facts as well – and often missing data and pictures.

The internet has become a wonderful place to find
information on your family. US Colleges
and Universities are getting grants to provide accurate information at cemeteries
– something long overdue and very helpful. Sharing family tree information,
census data, marriage, divorce, death, Social Security, land, and all sorts of
other things are available. And you can
meet other folks who are looking for bits and pieces of information that might
help both of you.
